- Still sorting through all the samples that recently came back from the last photoshoot for my new book How to Sew Sustainably 🪡 Note to self: do more of this as a break from all the thinky work!Yay I actually got my sewing machine out this afternoon!! In total I probably sewed about 10cm 😆 every stitch counted though as I was repairing this key case of partner's that originally belonged to his grandmother. Over the decades and through lots of recent use the sides had started to come apart. The leather is really soft and it gets a lot of use so we decided good strong machine stitching would be better than a visible hand sewn mend. Hopefully it now has decades more use in it 💚What's your go-to "pick up / put down" job to keep your hands busy and give your brain a rest?Leftover fabrics from Sewing Basics For Every Body now in a sample in How to Sew Sustainably! ⭕♻️

Chop chop! If you’ve had your eye on some MIY Collection goodies this Christmas, the last posting date in the UK is Monday 21st December…..
OK, so it’s no secret round here that I’m EW’s number 1 scissor fan (read why here)! I tentatively ran an idea past Nick this summer about making some custom MIY Collection scissors, I didn’t even know if this was something that was possible or that he would ever consider doing, but joy of joys he said yes and here’s the result!!
Ernest Wright’s 8″ dressmaking shears and large bow embroidery scissors with custom white handles and the MIY Collection logo etched on the blade, right beside EW’s own esteemed logo. What a super happy bunny I was when these arrived.
You can buy them now in the MIY Collection shop and in person at MIY Workshop classes. The shears are £40, the small scissors are £25. A snip when you think about the price per use of scissors that are going to last you a lifetime…..
It’s the Spring Knitting & Stitching show at Olympia in London next week from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th. The show opens at 10am every day and is open late until 7pm on Thursday, then 5.30pm Friday and Saturday and 5pm Sunday.
I’ll be there with signed copies of my book “The Beginner’s Guide to Dressmaking”, MIY Collection dressmaking patterns and sewing tools and my scissor accessories. Find MIY Collection in the main hall on stand L16 near Fabrics Galore and M Rosenberg fabrics (now that will test my fabric shopping willpower!)
I’m also teaching at the show for the first time this year:
- Thursday 3.30-4.30pm Customising with Easy Appliqué £12 – tickets still available.
- Saturday 3.30-5pm Sew Knits on a Sewing Machine £15 – sold out.
See you there!
