- Argh excitement overload!!!! Look what arrived today 🙊 first advance copy of Sewing Basics for Every Body IN MY HANDS!! If you want to pre-order there's a link in my profile 😉 like with my last book I'll have signed copies available for pre-order from the end of November....🎄 A huge thanks to a great team that helped me bring this book to life. The whole team at my fabulous publishers @makeetcbooks @rylandpetersandsmall, especially @wolflick, the best photographer in the world @julianwardphoto, @fabworksmillshop for being so generous with fabrics and those beautiful models: @itsstefan @krystalshand @mariandk09. Stylist Nel Haynes and cool photo studios @copperdollarstudios @studioboardroom A book isn't just the work of one person, it takes a team of hardworking creative people to buy into your vision ❤❤❤Feeling physically and emotionally drained. Spent the past 2 days clearing the garage and garden at my mum and dad's house and filling a skip. My dad hoarded. I don't think it would've qualified as a diagnosed problem, but my god the things we found: the swing I spent many happy hours on at their first house, a sign from a cafe (I can only assume his thinking was - useful bit of wood), umpteen gas cylinders 😳 umpteen tins of old paint, about a billion screws and nails (mostly beautifully organised), about a thousand hinges and locks, a nail gun that can get nails into concrete, more spades and shovels than any one household could ever need or use, at least one of every woodworking and building tool known to mankind and enough wood, bricks and guttering to build another house in the garden. He kept on collecting "just in case". We kept a lot of useful stuff but we filled every square inch of that skip. Initially I chucked these curtains in, then half an hour later I took them out. They're the curtains from their first house which we left in 1980. I am my father's daughter..... To all the hoarders and families of hoarders out there, I feel your pain. #organisedchaos #youneverknowitmightcomein #itmightcomeinhandy #aplaceforeverythingandeverythinginitsplace #hoarders #cantthrowitaway #70scurtains #70sfabric #doesitbringyoujoy #familyhistory #everyobjecttellsastory #onemanstrashisanothermanstreasure #socialhistory #allpartofthehealingprocessI've started listing destash sale items in my stories that are up for grabs, I'll save them to my highlights under "Destash" and remove ones that are sold 👍Making myself a new pair of Derwent wide leg pants and following my own instructions for a super comfy elastic waist facing 👍✂️ . . #beginnersguidetoknits #beginnersguidetoknittedfabrics #derwenttrousers #widelegtrousers #widelegpants #selfishsewing #sewingforme #wardrobegaps #seasonalsewing #sewingbook #sewingtips #sewinghelp #makingclothes #sewingclothes #comfyclothes #imakemyclothes #isewmyclothes #makedontbuy #sewingbasics #memadeeveryday #handmadebasics #everydaydressmaking #everydayclothes #everydayfashion

Chop chop! If you’ve had your eye on some MIY Collection goodies this Christmas, the last posting date in the UK is Monday 21st December…..
OK, so it’s no secret round here that I’m EW’s number 1 scissor fan (read why here)! I tentatively ran an idea past Nick this summer about making some custom MIY Collection scissors, I didn’t even know if this was something that was possible or that he would ever consider doing, but joy of joys he said yes and here’s the result!!
Ernest Wright’s 8″ dressmaking shears and large bow embroidery scissors with custom white handles and the MIY Collection logo etched on the blade, right beside EW’s own esteemed logo. What a super happy bunny I was when these arrived.
You can buy them now in the MIY Collection shop and in person at MIY Workshop classes. The shears are £40, the small scissors are £25. A snip when you think about the price per use of scissors that are going to last you a lifetime…..
It’s the Spring Knitting & Stitching show at Olympia in London next week from Thursday 5th to Sunday 8th. The show opens at 10am every day and is open late until 7pm on Thursday, then 5.30pm Friday and Saturday and 5pm Sunday.
I’ll be there with signed copies of my book “The Beginner’s Guide to Dressmaking”, MIY Collection dressmaking patterns and sewing tools and my scissor accessories. Find MIY Collection in the main hall on stand L16 near Fabrics Galore and M Rosenberg fabrics (now that will test my fabric shopping willpower!)
I’m also teaching at the show for the first time this year:
- Thursday 3.30-4.30pm Customising with Easy Appliqué £12 – tickets still available.
- Saturday 3.30-5pm Sew Knits on a Sewing Machine £15 – sold out.
See you there!

The little sewing tool available in cm’s and inches is £10, the big pattern cutting ruler (in cm’s only) is £16, or you can buy a set for £23, all with free P&P in the UK! Go on, treat yourself (or that stitchy friend of yours).
