There are some short workshops aimed at complete beginners and a weekly evening class open to all levels of sewing ability. Read on for more details!
HOW TO USE A SEWING MACHINE WORKSHOP
£35 | 9th Sept 6-9pm | 18th Sept 11am-2pm
Do you have a sewing machine hiding in a cupboard and no idea how to use it?! Set it free and bring it along to this workshop. The class is aimed at beginners to find your way around a sewing machine including all the basics:
- Threading up.
- Choosing the best thread.
- Changing needles / understanding different needle types & sizes.
- Different stitches and when & how to use them.
- Understanding thread tension.
- Changing the presser foot / understanding different feet & their uses.
- The basic habits of good sewing (including how to start & stop, sewing around curves and corners & sewing positions).
- Basic machine maintenance.
- Tips for good first projects to start making on your machine!
These classes are limited to just 6 people meaning you will get plenty of help and support. Bring your own machine or use one of mine for an additional £5.
WEEKLY SEWING CLASSES
£90 | 4 x 2hr classes | Monday evenings 6.30-9.30pm
Want to learn to sew but don’t want to commit yourself to a long course?
Been sewing a while and want to learn some new skills?
Do you want to get back into sewing after a break and need a refresher?
Book a block of 4 classes and work on your own choice of project in a small group with plenty of expert help. Whether you’re embarking on your first ever sewing project, stuck at sewing elasticated waist skirts and avoiding zips, or in need of some help adjusting patterns to get a better fit, you will be welcome at this class.
You don’t need to attend 4 consecutive weeks, you will have 5 weeks to use your 4 classes giving you the flexibility to miss a week without losing out!
These classes are limited to just 6 people meaning you will get plenty of help and support. Bring your own machine or use one of mine for an additional £10.
These classes are all held at The Venue in Stocksbridge in north Sheffield. The Venue has lots of free parking, is fully accessible all on one level and is less than 15 minutes from the M1. Full directions here.
