Make a Roewood Jersey Skirt in Sheffield

jersey pencil skirt

Up North and want to take a class with me? Good news! There are still places available at my one day workshop at Running with Scissors on Sunday 4th June.

We’ll be making the Roewood jersey pencil skirt from my book “A Beginner’s Guide to Making Skirts”, ideal for newbie dressmakers and those fearful of sewing knits as I’ll be showing you how to sew stretch knit fabrics using just your regular sewing machine.

There are several ways to make this skirt so you’ll end up with a finished skirt completely unique to your own style to take away at the end of the day and a signed copy of my book to make more skirts.

Full details and booking info here.  Look forward to seeing you fellow Northerners!!

Sew Dots with Rosie Martin

sew dots

I’m really happy to be supporting Rosie Martin’s Sew Dots challenge this month.

You may know Rosie as the author of two gorgeous sewing books; “DIY Couture” and her latest work “No Patterns Needed“.

Rosie doesn’t just write sewing books though, she also works for the RNIB and if you’ve ever known anyone who’s lost their sight you’ll know what a traumatic experience it is not only for that person, but for their family and friends too.  My beloved grandad lost his sight in the final years of his life and I personally found it an extremely upsetting experience to watch him lose his independence and to see his previously gregarious outgoing personality shrink into one of fear and dependance.

To get involved and support Rosie’s challenge you can find out more over on Rosie’s blog here.

Part of the challenge involves a bumper prize of sewing goodies, one of which is a copy of my new book “A Beginner’s Guide to Making Skirts“, see what else you could win here.

Happy dotty sewing, I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Me Made May 16

Are you taking part in Me Made May this year?

It’s Zoe Edwards’ yearly event aims to get us makers wearing more of what we make, find out more about it and how to take part here.

Now, I already wear a lot of me-mades all the time (I’m sure that won’t be news!). So I’ve added a little twist to my pledge:

‘I, Wendy Ward of http://www.wendyward.co.uk and www.miycollection.com (@thatwendyward on Instagram), sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’16. I endeavour to wear at least one me-made item from my collection of samples I’ve made of my patterns each day for the duration of May 2016. I will also plan a completely selfish sewing project and get it started as a treat for finishing my book!’

Hopefully wearing more of my samples will inspire my students when they see the patterns being worn in real life and I’m really looking forward to the selfish sewing part of that pledge!

What with Me Made May and the next series of the Great British Sewing Bee starting later this month, I’m looking forward to a month of making.
